“Don’t Walk Away” - Jade

A few weeks ago on her BBC Radio 6 Show, Lauren Laverne interviewed Grimes and played a People’s Choice playlist of 90s R & B. It was perhaps the greatest two hours of radio ever.

“Never Let Me Go” - Blood Orange and Florence Welch

Earlier this year we saw Florence + the Machine perform live in London at Alexandra Palace (that’s Ally Pally to you, guvna), and she closed her set with “Never Let Me Go.” This version of the song is a stunning duet between Flo and Dev Hynes and charts pretty high on the Breathtaking Scale. Somewhere between gut-wrenching and tear-jerking and sounds-a-bit-like-Prince.

“Water Against the Rocks” - Fanny

We first heard about Fanny when our friends over at The Line of Best Fit wrote a very nice feature on her last month. A former member of Swedish girl band PLAY, she quit the group in 2009 and began working on her own material. She’s now signed to indie label Hybris, and is set to release her first solo album later this year.

We like her taste in pop idols; homegirl cites Beyoncé, Geri Halliwell and Jill Scott as inspirations. (Although her sound is a bit more Lyyke Li than Destiny’s Child.) Of course, we rarely meet a Swedish chanteuse we don’t love, but after watching this stunning video of Fanny performing ‘Water Against the Rocks,’ we think she’ll be around for a while.

Tennis - “My Better Self”

Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, also known as Tennis, are the coolest couple in the indie rock game. Originally from Denver, they spent one year traveling together on a boat before deciding to record music. Their track “My Better Self” is our favourite song off their album Young and Old, so we were thrilled when they released a video for it last week. One of our friends described it best via Facebook message: “OH MY GOD. Melancholic and self-aware lyrics coupled with an upbeat melody and a nice beat … usually does me.”
